30 JAN HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY CEREMONY IN THE PARLIAMENT OF PALMA DE MALLORCA
Last week the whole world marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day, designated by the UN General Assembly in 2005, sixty years after Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and death camp, was liberated by the Red Army. Jewish communities around the globe held or joined special memorial ceremonies, among them the Bnei Anousim community of Palma de Mallorca.
On Friday, the community leader Miguel Segura, together with some other community members, took part in an event organized by the Balearic Parliament, during which guests honored the memories of the victims of antisemitism who were murdered during the war. It is interesting to note that on the same day, Miguel, born in the year of victory, also celebrated his 74th birthday.
